About

Denise Ross, MA, MFT, has worked in clinical practice in San Diego for over 30 years. Denise specializes in counseling Adults Individually and Couples. Her focus is to assist others in developing healthy relationships personally and professionally. Reduce stress, depression, and anxiety symptoms, or solve work-related concerns. Couples learn how to reduce conflict, work on relationship issueslife transitions, and build lasting relationship tools. Denise served on the Board of Directors for Collaborative Family Law Group of San Diego (2009 – 2010) and as a Divorce Coach.

Along with her private practice in California, she has worked counseling active Military members. For the past few years, she worked/lived in Italy and Japan with the active Military in both the schools and communities.

Education

 

Denise has over 30 years in the field of Counseling. Licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist since 1991. She graduated from Lesley College in Cambridge (MA) in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science from the Graduate Department, specializing in Family Counseling. She interned at a Family Therapy Day Treatment facility in Newton (MA). There, she led group therapy counseling. Denise graduated with a Master’s degree, a Certified Pupil Personnel Services Credential, and a Lifetime College Instructor Credential from USIU in 1987. In 1991, she passed the Behavioral Board of Sciences Exam and became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. In 2019, Denise passed the National Counseling Exam for Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists and became licensed to practice in Tennessee and North Carolina in 2019.

 

Work Experience & Memberships

 

 

Professional past and current memberships include: Clinical MFT Fellow of AAMFT, American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. 

 

Collaborative Family Law Group of San Diego: Coach, The American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists: Clinical member, and The California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists: Clinical Member. 

 

 She worked in San Diego City Schools with severely emotionally disturbed students as a District Counselor and a School Counselor (1983-2000) at Vista Academy of Performing Arts (VUSD).  She has also taught numerous public seminars on parenting to San Diego, Encinitas, and Vista School districts. She ran groups in the Vista Unified schools on ADHD, coping with divorce, parenting, and self-esteem. She was also a therapist speaker at the Mira Costa Second Saturday Divorce Workshop for Women. Recently, she lived in Italy and Japan providing Counseling services with the active military and their families. She currently lives and works in Beaufort, North Carolina.
